An educational workshop, the AegeanDocs workshop, was organized for this purpose, aiming to produce short documentary films that will be screened during their own special section at the Festival.
The participants who created the films were high school, university and grad students, teachers and professors with their students, and young amateur filmmakers. The groups could either be consisting of young people only or include older members. The participants could chose the subject of their films. Some proposed topics were the collection and recording of stories about the history of Lesvos, the everyday life, the local culture, the economy, the rustic, urban and industrial architecture etc.
A public call for expression of interest for participation at the seminars was published and the workshops began in March. The tutors were filmmaker and producer Marco Gastine, executive producer Yiannis Ksirouhakis, the director of AegeanDocs Kostas Spyropoulos and camera operator Konstantinos Yiaptses. The first workshop took place on April 4, 5 and 6, the second one on June 20, 21 and 22 and the third on December 5, 6 and 7.
The seminars were daylong and consisted of exercises to develop ideas, demonstrations of screenings and films and work in small groups. In total, there were 47 trainees (split in groups).
